I was going through some old photos and this really caught my eye. I just kept thinking of the North Downs 😉 The area around Minas Vrun in particular, you can almost imagine the Fields of Fornost are just over that rise…
This is Corfe Castle, which is on the south coast of England (Isle of Purbeck, Dorset to be more precise). The castle is about 1000 years old and was originally built by William the Conqueror soon after he ‘arrived’ in England in 1066. It firstly served as a royal residence and a prison before eventually becoming a private home. It was finally destroyed in 1646 during the Civil War. Lady Mary Bankes had successfully defended it but it fell to the parliamentarians through betrayal. It was deliberately destroyed to leave it in the state that we see today and is currently looked after by the National Trust.
p.s. I probably won’t be posting quite as much over the next few weeks. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all 🙂
